Sept 26th: © The video from sept 10th is posted. Check it by clicking here

Sept 23rd: © If its not broken why fix it? Today we did a repeat of most of the days this week. The swell was up and the current was strong. Despite the not-so-easy conditions and some camera issues, Dylan captured some great photos!

Sept 21: Clean conditions for most of the morning along with a combo swell made some good Barrels....

Sept 18th: © Today the surf was a little smaller than yesterday, but still very fun!

Sept 17th: © Today were the best all around conditions yet out of our surf sessions with Dylan "the Magician" Mayer.

Sept 10th:
© Vince, Scotty, Jaimal, and Sean scored some fun overhead barrels this morning. Some of the Carlsbad crew (Brett Strothers, Pete Franco, Lyon, Brent Reilly) were out getting some good barrels too. At the end of the session, Brent lined up with Dylan on one of the waves of the day. Needless to say, Dylan scored some sick water shots. Later in the day Paul shot video from land at north jetty. Jeremiah, Golden, Sean, Zach, Vince and Jaimal all got some fun waves. click for pictures

Sept 7th: Today Dylan decided to mix it up and do some still shots from land. It was kinda of cloudy this morning so I'm not sure how good the good shots will be. Pictures from today will get posted with yesterday's pics soon

Sept 6th: Today Dylan did water shots during the morning and evening sessions. It got super crowded, right when he paddled out. This along with the incoming tide and inconsistent south swell made it hard to get much. Stay tuned for the pics Miah went to the wavehouse today to ride the Brutus Maximus. He is still plagued with injury (his ankle looks like he has a softball stuck inside) so I can't believe he is even riding that thing. The word is, Jaime (James Lovett) is killing that thing. Well that has been the word for a while but miah is claiming Jaime was pulling switch big - spins (360 shuv-it) today!! I wish I knew, before the day was almost over, that they were down there because I would have gone and filmed them! -VA

Sept 4th:
© Today the surf was actually pretty small. Lucky for us Dylan is a magician and we scored some pretty sick shots. It helps that... click for pictures

August 2006
Aug 27th: I left for Lake Havasu with my Dad and nephews. Miah and the boys left abreojos to go to Isla Natividad. Check back soon for the complete story of their trip... -VA

Aug 26th: I made it back from mexico with enough daylight to go for a surf. I ended up surfing with the new SRH team manager, Loren, at north jetty. Meanwhile miah, golden, Chris, Octi, and mully,
were still down south. -VA

Aug 24th: Paul and I went on our own mission south of the border to a place I call "secret spot." My trip wasn't nearly as succesful as Golden and Miah's. I was trying to fix my broken down truck for most of the day when I should have been surfing...Check back soon for the full stories and some video clips from both trips. -VA

Aug 23rd: Miah, Golden, Chris Smid and Chris Thomson (videogropher) head south to Abreojos and then Natividad. I was going to go with them but i had to be back on sunday. Pat Mulhurn went down south as well to an undisclosed spot about 10 hours below the border. -VA

Aug 18th: © Today Sean, Dylan and I went out on one of my Jet skis. We did some tow ats, trying to line up with Dylan, who was sitting in the water with his camera. Adam Coehn was also out with his buddy towing. Check the pics -VA

Aug 17th: © Check this new video made from some of the best clips we filmed last month.

Aug 16th: The waves are super small. We didn't even surf today. But we did post new photo galleries... under Dylan's photo section

Aug 15th: Sean Murphy and I took out my Yamaha Fx High Output waverunner to do some small wave tow surfing. The waves were pretty small but we each got to launch some big airs with the help of the jetski. The main problem was the depth of the water, or lack thereof. At times we were going 25mph+ over about 6 inches of water!! -VA

Aug 8th: © The swell died a little bit today but there were still some overhead sets. We surfed base kinda going off. It has been very walled for this entire swell but today you could find some corners. I got super lucky on my last wave with the best barrel I got all day. It was one of the bigger sets of the day...

Aug 6th: © The waves are still up! Jaimal and I surfed North Jetty with Carson and about 100 other people. It is sunday and we had it all... boogie boarders, knee boarders, long boarders, short boarders young and old, and only a few locals. It was one of the most crowded days ever out there. I think out of 40 people in the water I recognized about 6!! The waves were overhead on the sets but there was 3 or 4 people paddling for every wave!! Jaimal got snaked by a boogie right when we paddled out. Carson (pictured above) got a sweet frontside air just before Miah Paddled out. I got some decent backside swacks on a few lefts. Scotty G filmed the first 1/3 of the session until he noticed something chaotic happening on the beach. I guess some kids surfing saw a body floating so they put him on a longboard and brought him in. I don't know the exact details of how he got that way and I don't want to speculate. What I did see, is scotty's footage of the life guards and paramedics administering CPR and everything else they could for about 13 minutes. The guy did not make it...When I find out more details I will update this story. -VA

Aug 4th: © 3 sessions today. first DMJs then north jetty in the afternoon and evening. Dylan Mayer shot from the jetty. Dan Jenkins and Billy, from surfshot mag showed up as well. Derek B, Miah, Jaimal, and myself were among some other locals. Kevin Zinger showed up. Julian mullins, Nick Jiampa, and some other guys were there also. Derek scored the best shots... Check out Dylan's Slide show

Aug 3rd: The swell is up today! Jaimal and I went to lowers... It was not as big as I expected but the sets were still well overhead. The crowd was super thick, as usual for this time of the year. There wasn't that many "joe pros" in the water but there were a bunch of dudes on really big boards. I saw Nate Winkles, who I hadn't seen in years, out there in a red t-shirt and trunks. brrrrr, it was about 65 degrees... we used to be on the US team together in 1999. I also saw Cordell Miller, Brandon Tipton, Warren Smith, Jesse Evans, and some ripping groms out in the water. When I was walking back up the trail I saw Pat O'connel heading down. The last time I saw Pat was when we went to the not so secret, secret rivermouth, on one of my Jet Skis around february 05'... right before I broke my ankle. After about an hour I was able to find a little bit of a rythm. Jaimal got some sick ones right when we paddled out. I met a guy named Minor, from Costa Rica. He is sponsored by Da Hui... We split the peak a few times, baulking out everyone else that was trying to go. Sometimes that is the only way to catch waves at lowers. You gotta find someone that is always going the same way, sit right next to him, and split the wave... -VA

July 2006

July 25th: © Tim Zigler, Vince, Jared, Emir, and Jaimal all surfed north jetty. Jai wasn't having the best session. For a couple of hours he didnt get much. Then this nugget came to him, he did a sick snap off the lip and then ... click here for the rest of the story.

July 15th: © South wind, fog, and Freezing cold water to go along with some overhead, lowtide, funked out peaks, best describes this morning. Of course we had the papparazzi ready to fire. Joel Mayer and Paul Housley for photo and video from Land and Dylan Mayer (no relation to joel) went in the water with his "mark II." I think we might have got one shot while the fog cleared before we went in... Then around 10 am it started to clean up. I got the call that it was looking fun so we went for round two. This time with only two photogs, (unless you count everyone that took turns) Scotty G from land and Paul in the water. The waves were super fun! It got ten times cleaner than the morning session. the water was still cold but there were some warm spots and the waves kept coming, that helped out. The session started with jaimal and myself. Golden was already in the water (we were right in front of his house). Then Jeremiah paddled out around the same time as Magnum Martinez (quiksilver) and Otto Flores (Hurley). Everyone had a great time...except miah. He wants Pipe, puerto, or something similar. Our session ended around 2:00 pm and it still looked fun! Check the Footi!

July 14th: Kevin Zinger comes down from LA and surfs with Vince and Jai for the first time. Paul did watervideo but the current was very strong so it was hard to line up. The waves picked up to a little bit overhead.

July 13th: © Dylan Mayer shoots water shots of Jaimal(pictured), Vince, And Sean Murphy. The waves were fun and the conditions were perfect! Check out Dylan's Slide Show

July 7th: © The waves were fun. The surf didnt look very good at the harbor so we went out by the beach access inbetween wisconsin st. and tyson st. We shot with a new photogropher this morning named Dylan Mayer. He has potential. Check out some of the photos he got. Paul was doing water shots with a video camera as well this day check it out here video clips from this day.

July 1st:
The south swell in the forecast is smaller than I expected. the waves are still very fun when they come through...

June 2006
June 25th: The waves have been fun in Oceanside. The Rip Off event is over at " La Jolla." They scored it realy good. I cant recall the last event where they ran 4days in a row all day, until the contest is over. They had a waiting period from the 20th of this month to the 1st of july. I am sure you will never beable to surf that place uncrowded again...

June 21th:  Vince Jaimal & Jerry
score even more barrels. Swell dropped a little. Vince is on and finds over 15 of em today, he gets better bigger barrels today than yesterday?!?, Jaimal got over 20 again, Jerry over 15! The Wct is scoring hard right now in mexico. Rip Curl's "Search" should be called "Rip Off Search and destroy!!" I personnaly will never buy a rip curl product and encourage everyone to do the same.

June 20th:  Vince Jaimal & Jerry score overhead barrels. Vince can't find em, but Jaimal got over 20, Jerry over 10! Meanwhile Rip Curl (rip off) is holding the wct event "somewhere in Mexico" at a place they are calling "La Jolla". At least they made up a fake name for it. This is actually VInce's favorite wave in the world. When you see video or photos of this place you will see why...

June 19th:  Vince came out of about a dozen barrels at the Oceanside pier.  Later when he and scotty g went back the lifeguards were writing tickets for surfing too close to the pier...  Check back soon for pics and video... In puerto Escondido the waves got the biggest they have seen it in years. Scott chandler was among the few who charged what is being called the biggest day surfed in puerto history. Chuck patterson was chandler's partner.

June 16th: Miah left for a trip down Baja.  By the looks of the swell forcasts, he is going to score some great waves.

June15th: Vince returns from Kauai

June 7th: Vince
leaves to Kauai, Golden leaves to Venezuela

May 2006
May 31st: Scott Chandler left for Puerto Escondido again.  He just got back about two weeks ago from there.  This time he is Driving down with Jet Skis!

May 28th:
The last Sun Diego Airshow of the year went down at the Ocean Beach Pier...Zach took second place.  Ryan Carlson won.  He pretty much already had the win and then he put the nails in the coffin with a super sick gorkin flip.  It was better than the gorkin though.  It was more like the Kelly Sater rodeo flip (at Pipe) that was not pulled all the way years ago...va

May 26th: © Golden Jeremiah, Vince,
and Paul return from Deep Mexico.  Check the footi and read the stories... as soon as we post them

May 20th:
© The mexican nationals are being held in puerto to determine the wildcards for the upcoming WCT Rip Curl event "somewhere in mexico"  We happened to get kalle catching the wave of the contest check it out soon...  Also, we know where the rip curl event is going to be held but we do not agree with it and you can read more on that subject here soon as well. - La Punta...

May 17th:
Vince and paul left to mexico and to eventually meet up with the Depesas.  Check back soon for more details, rider journals, pics, vid clips...

May 9th: Congrats to Golden and Vince for appearing in this months surfshot magazine! Vince is on the second and 3rd pages of the mag standing in a barrel. the guy that took the picture won photo of the month with it. Liquid Polorized ran a double page ad with a shot of golden at pipeline. On the back cover is our good friend Eric McHenry, bustin a big air for the Anarchy Eyewear ad.

May 8th:
Dms nuggets.  Puerto report from miah was solid 6 with some 8 foot sets. Miah calls the back of the wave...

May 7th:
Fish Fry at North Jetty.   More sic surf in mexico...

May 6th: Derek, Zach, Jaimal,
and Vince surf the pier.  during the biggest set of the day a guy got swept through the pier and slammed into the pilings.  He ended up bear hugging a barnicle covered piling until Derek and Jaimal were able to save him.   James Lovett was at a skim board contest in Laguna. Some where in mexico the depesas surfed some triple overhead right point...

May 5th:
DMJ morning session... Not that good.  Then Lowers with the crew. Some nice overhead sets.  Derek, Zach, Jaimal, Sean, Vince, Paul check the video soon.  Meanwhile, Somewhere in mexico, the depesas are surfing a perfect right point that was double overhead plus and pitting from start to finish...they broke 4 boards today!

May  4th: Golden
and Jeremiah Go to Puerto Escondido.  Scott Chandler is already there

April 2006
April 30th: The second day of the Sundiego contest at the harbour.  The first day for the airshow.  Vince was able to post two scores in his first heat but nothing big enough in his second heat to make it to the finals.  Zach ended up being right on the bubble in 5th place with the top four advancing to the finals. -SO

David Diaz was landing Sic airs in each of his heats.  Daryl goodrum was in the zone today as well.  I saw him pull at least 3 or 4 ally-oops.  Josh Buran was biting his nails watching the last airshow heat before the final because if zach landed just about anything he would bump josh out of the final.  Josh ended up getting 3rd overall and 4th went to Gavin Sutherland.  Who was  struggling (for a change) to find a good ramp and stick it. Check the Video soon!

April 19th:
Today we shot an "infomercial" for freestyle waterproof mp3 players.  Jaimal, Jeremiah, and Vince starred in it along with Julio Aragon, the sales and marketing managerWe shot this just in time with vince getting "raccoon eyes" the next day...Wind n sea was pretty fun for the evening session.

April 18th:
All the boys surfed the dredge on the south side of the pier.  Craig Coppola was shooting along with Jeff Simonson and Paul HousleyJaimal Got the barrel of the day.  Vince Alessi Broke his nose going for a superman! -so
Today the waves were decent.  If you were in the right spot you could have got a sic one.  All the same guys were out; Cherokee martinez, willi smith, Jason Bennet, Sean Murphy, Jaimal H, Golden and Jeremiah Depesa, Josh Sleigh, and more.  Jaimal got the best barrel that anyone came out of all morning.  Josh sleigh had this left that was super sick...he didnt quit make it though.  I went for a superman and missed the grab with my left hand.  the board turned sideways and POW!  Smacked me right in the nose.  My nose was obviously broken just by looking at it. -va

April 15th:
Jaimal and I drove to the wedge.  Jaime was already there.  It pretty much sucked.  It was a "you should have been here yesterday" sort of day.  -va

April 14th: Jaime Lovett
scored the newport wedge.  -va

April 13th:
Today should have been sick judging by the way it looked last night...It had morning sickness though. Everyone ended up going separate ways.  © Check out the new video posted from a dog beach session last february

April 12th:
After wasting a couple of hours checking the waves, Jaimal and I finally decided to go out on the south side of the pier right in front of the dredge. Matt King showed up with Craig Coppola ,a photographer. as did many others.  It was a paparazzi seen.  The lighting was about as good as it gets but the waves got walled during the higher tide and ,because of the dredge, the water was very brown.  Kenny Morris was in the water shooting still shots.  I think he came with Brent Riley and some other ripping grom that had No Fear and DC stickers on his board.  Willie Smith Jr. rolled up on his bicycle already half suited before we paddled out.  Jason Bennet, Mike Poole and Willie  some of the more early Oceanside guys.  Sean Murphy showed up half way through the session with sector deck Jeff,  who was filming.  There was two other guys shooting from the beach that I did not recognize.   Cherokee Martinez was representing the Venezuelan/Oside crew.      By the evening the waves had picked up very much.  It was a full on combo swell.  The waves looked like blacks or something (with no barrels).  The sets were coming in A-framing.  Paul Housley did water video and Melissa filmed from the beach.  Zach Rhindhart and Sean Murphy were already in the water when we showed up.  Golden was supposed to drift down from his house with Casey Curtis but we never saw them.  Chris Abad, Jeremy Hiet, Aaron Coyle, and Cherokee Martinez were among what seemed like hundreds of other surfers/boogies.  It is spring break here in Oceanside though so that is obviously playing a big part in the crowd...

April 11th:
Pre-Dawn patrol At Dmjs again.  To my surprise, Golden showed up with Jaimal, right after jerry showed up...at 5:30am, about an hour before sunrise.  The problem was the sand bars have changed over the last few days and the swell was smaller than we expected. There were still some ripable waves but when I wake up that early I want to get piped!  -va

April 10th:
Fun Camp pendelton in the morning then Lowers in the evening.  I called everyone but only jaimal, Rat, and Golden showed up.  Scotty G filmed again.  He still doesn't know... -va

April 9th:
Checked it super early and came back home.  worked on the computer a little and watched the waves live on the internet a lot.  around 8:45 Jerry, Jaimal and I went to dmjs and surfed for an hour before it blew out.  James Lovett wins contest at the wave house!!  Jeremiah returns from a weekend in Rosarito.  I dont think he even brought his surfboard...It was purely a poon mission. He is all psyched on a fight he saw which he described as, "one of the best fights I've seen in a long time...maybe the best knockout I have ever seen..." Coming from Jeremiah, you know that was a mental brawl. -va

April 8th:
South Jetty was good sized and pretty fun. -va

April 7th:
I hooked up my Jet Skis around 5:30 a.m. and waited for jaimal.  At about 6:30 we were finally getting gas.  By the time we made it to the boat launch (5 minutes from my house) Sean Murphy, Zach Rhinehart and Dan Jenkins (photographer) were already suited up, waiting for us.  The waves were not as good as we expected but when you are whipping into them at 20 to 30+ mph you don't need much.  I lined up with Dan on the first wave and thought I was too far away from him so ,like a jack ass, I kicked out and did nothing.  Of coarse, that was my best chance at getting a shot the whole day...  Jaimal almost killed Murph when he wasnt watching in front of him as hes driving the jet ski.  Luckily murph was watching and he paddled out of the way!  When I started to drive Dan went in to the beach for some reason.  I guess to let us warm up?  Zach launched a couple giant airs and stuck a mean ally-oop.  Sean Murphy got a sick backside barrel while free surfing to the south of where we were towing.  When Dan came back out to do watershots I got murph pretty close to him a couple times and he was able to blast a couple big airs and some sick carves.  When I towed Zach he was also able to launch a couple big ones  but they might have been a little too far away from Dan for the shot.  It was a little more difficult to put zach in the perfect spot than Murph because Zach wanted the lefts and they were harder to read than the rights today.  By the time I got to surf again dan was cold and over it.  The wind had also got on it.  Jaimal has only drove a few times and was having a tough time connecting with me and puting me where I wanted to be.  Oh yeah, I also lost my board all the way to the beach on my first or second wave.  Needles to say, I cut it short counted my Ls and went home... -va

April 5th:
Blown Out...Office Day.  As of today, Vince Alessi Officially Rides for SRH Clothing.

April 4th: I
Dawn patrolled again with jerry and Jaimal.  It was literally dark for the first 20 minutes of the session and was basically all-time.  The forecast was calling for rain and south wind so it wasnt very crowded.  It was offshore and a little cloudy.  But I came out of 15 barrels and jaimal came out of about just as many.  Pour Jerry had to go to work early so he was done at 7:30.  I saw Adam "biff" desposito and Pete Franco at the end of my session.  By the time they paddled out the lowering tide had made it not nearly as good.  It was less consistent and smaller.  but it was still prety sick when we left at about 9:50! -va

April 3rd:
Dawn patroled DMJs with jerry and jaimal. I came out of about 8 barrels.  Jaimal made it into double digits. Then we decided to go surf Lowers.  I put together a big portion of our crew.  Scotty G filmed because his knee is messed up from surfing the harbor on the 31st.  Paul Did watershots.  Jeremiah and Kirk passmore drove together,  I went with scotty, paul and jaimal, James "jaime" Lovett Drove himself, and Zach showed up with Sean Murphy.  The waves were pretty good when they came through.  The crowd got super thick by about 3:30...a half hour after we paddled out--Typical Lowers Crowd.  A bunch of kids that think they are (or are going to be) kelly slater and a bunch of dudes riding boards that are way to big and complaining about how crowded it is... -va

April 2nd:
Congratulations Zach for taking second place in the SunDiego Air Show.  I woke up at 5:00 am but it was like getting up at 4 because the time changed last night.  I drove down to pacific beach at 5:45 am and got there by 6:30 so I could beach enter the air show.  Of course, when i got there they were just starting to set up the scafolding.  Any ways the airshow was pretty sick.  there was a lot of airs going down.  Some of the air show regs like Eric mchenry, Josh sliegh and Gavin Sutherland were in classic form.  Josh Buran was impressive even though he is on a "cheater board" similar to josh sliegh's.  pretty much all the competitors in the airshow were busting.  I think there was only a few guys that were unable to post scores.  Jeremiah Depesa rolled up right when the airshow was about to start and they through him in the first heat.  Zach Rhinehart showd up last minute as well and snuck into the last airshow heat.  Jeremiah got a 4.36 for a descent backside air reminiscent of a quarter pipe skate air.  I paddled out for a warm up surf right before my heat ( at the end of miahs heat).  On the way out I saw Sean marceron do a pretty sick backside air 3...it was a little bit chop-hoppish (when he landed and spun around he was on the open face).  He got a 6.5 for it.  Then I saw him bust another one from behind the wave.  This one was a little more critical and he got a 7 for it.  When I paddled out  my first wave was a good left.  I hucked what felt like a pretty big backside air 3.  I landed from the initial 180 backwards at the top of the wave and spun around the rest of the 180 as the wave was closing out.  I heard some cheers from the beach. Then I hopped a couple times because the wave was reforming and I almost made it to a second air section.  I couldnt get anything else the rest of the heat but I thought I would have at least a 6 for the air I did and ,because of the format,  I knew I still had another chance.   When I went in and checked the scores I was a little shocked.  They scored me a 2.4 on that one.  I thought it was similar to the one sean got a 6.5 for.  Except I think I was a little higher-- or I at least traveled further in the air.  After that I felt like giving up.  I still wanted to do good of course.  Especially since this was the first event SRH paid for me to do.  James Lovett met us down there and busted some airs in his heats.  In jeremiahs second heat, he did a frontside air 3 that he did not pull all the way.  The judges decided to give him a score based on "the 90 percent rule." If your air is deemed 90percent completed you are awarded with half of the score you would have got if it was completed 100 percent.  So for miah's 90 percent frontside 3 They said they would have gave him a 5 so he ended up with a 2.5.  Thats higher than the score I got for a COMPLETED air.  This contest was the first contest I have done since I broke my ankle about a year ago.  I was reminded why I was thinking of not doing any more contests back then.  I couldnt get anything worth punting on in my second heat.  The waves were pretty shitty by then.  David Diaz was in both of my heats and he was able to find ramps both  times, landing himself in the finals.  Other finalists were Josh buran, Sean Marceron, and Zach Rhinehart.  Click here for details from sundiego's site.  Afterwards, Miah and James went to the Wave House and rode the fake wave.  -va

April 1st: t
he waves were pretty small and blown out. I surfed by myself out front for 35 minutes.  I actualy got 3 regular airs and came in on a frontside air 3.  So I decided I am going to enter the sun diego contest tomorrow -va
